We got back to Cairo and transferred to the hotel.
Marc had organised a tour for us at the Museum
which was fantastic because we didnt think we would be able
to get there and I am so glad we did.
There was a lot of people there but it didnt matter - we
were all pretty tired but we did try to take in what our guide
was saying.
My absolute favourite bit by far was the rooms where the artefacts
found in Tuts tomb were kept - I have no idea how it all
fitted in there.
Apparently the guy who found it passed out when the tomb was opened
and I have a pretty fair idea why!
The chariots and beds and statues and board games etc etc.
The jewellery was stuff that I would wear but
standing in front of the solid gold and blue mask was incredible.
I have seen it so many times in books and on telly - I couldnt
believe the real thing was right in front of me.
Anyway after that a few of us paid the extra
money to go in to the Mummies Room - I am so glad I did.
They have nine Mummies in various stages of unwrap and it was
so cool.
Some of them looked like they died a painful death with gnarled
hands and feet and very pained expressions on their faces but
my fave Mummy was Ramses II.
He was the one who built Abu Simbel.
You could see his hair and teeth and fingernails and toenails.
He was over 3200 years old.
After seeing all the stuff that he did and then to actually seem
him was great.
We walked back from the Museum to the hotel.
We crossed the Nile and got some great views of the city - just
like any other city really.
Had a bit of a rest and a late lunch and then jumped in cabs back
to the pyramids for our camel/horse ride.
I was in Egypt so I had to take a camel.
They are so big and ugly and scary - I was a real baby and made
this little boy go with me everywhere.
They are so high off the ground and the one behind me kept trying
to eat my pants so I had one leg straight out in front of me.
There was no way I was going faster than a walk but a few of the
group got their camels up to a gallop.
The little boy told me that my camels name was Yusef - didnt
make me feel any closer to him!!
We got some great views of the pyramids and the people on the
horses had a great time galloping up and down the desert sand
dunes.
It was a great way to finish the tour.
The cab ride back to the hotel was not so great
- we broke down and the poor guy had no idea how to fix it (us
taking photos probably wasnt helping him) so we ended up
getting out and walking.
We had a really long way to go but he got his taxi working and
picked us up half way down the road!
We were all really stuffed but went out for
a group dinner.
We went to TGI Fridays and then a few people went out.
Most of us were stuffed so we went back to the hotel and crashed
out.
