Today we were going to climb
the Eiffel Tower.
We slept late and then Brett headed off to an internet cafe and
I found a coffee café!
I sat outside and took in the city!
We then walked the same way
as last night and headed to the Tower.
We stopped on the way there and brought some lunch to take up.
I thought it might be nice if we had baguettes up the Tower.
We took some photos from a distance and headed up to start the
climb.
From a distance I made comment
that the lines didnt look to long which was good.
When we got right up there we found out why.
The Tower was closed!
The staff were on strike.
I couldnt believe it.
I really wanted to take Brett up there but it turns out that I
couldnt.
Brett sat down and wrote his
postcards and wandered around a bit.
There were lots of military/police with guns patrolling.
Brett was talking (to a girl) who said that the Tower had already
been closed for three days.
I was a bit relieved at that because I would have been really
mad if we had been walking around Paris all day yesterday and
may have been able to climb it.
We found ourselves a spot in
the sun and had a nice rest - chilling in Paris in shadows of
the Tower.
We had our baguettes under the Tower instead of on top of it but
it was still fine.
There were lots of people just
milling around and we spent a few hours there in the sun.
It was lovely and relaxing.
We headed back to the hostel for a change for dinner and to get some warmer clothes on.
My plan was to go to the Sacre
Coeur and watch the sun set up there then head for dinner in the
Montmatre area and see the Moulin Rouge all lit up.
We went to the top of the hill where the Sacre Coeur was and sat
up there and admired the view.
There were quite a lot of people
doing the same thing and some even had wine and cheese and crackers.
There was a man playing a violin which gave the place a bit of
atmosphere as well.
We waited while the sun set and the lights came on - it took a little longer than we thought it would and I think by the time we left Brett was getting quite cold.
We went and found a nice restaurant
for dinner and ate and then headed to Moulin Rouge.
The area is the Red Light District and we got lots of offers to
go and see sex shows.
I thought it would be fun to go in but Brett wouldnt come
with me.
He said that he cant go to a place like that with his sister!
We got to the Moulin Rouge and took some photos and headed back
to the hostel.
Back to London tomorrow.
That night was the worst night I have ever had in a hostel.
There was a bunch of drunk loud Americans running riot through
the hostel screaming at the top of their voices USA USA USA!
Not a good nights sleep but that is just what happens sometimes.
