Fulham Tup
268 Fulham Road,
Fulham
London, SW10 9EW
......and here is a review from an internet
site
The Fulham Tup became the first in the Massive companys
Tup chain when it opened its doors in 1996.
For those not in the know about such things, a tup is a male sheep.
The motto for the Tup pubs is Oves Optimae Sunt which
literally translates to Sheep are Best.
Of course, this doesnt give us much of a clue as to what
theyre supposed to be best for.
Shagging, youd probably say if you were Welsh, or burning,
if you were French.
For the rest of us, the answer isnt quite so obvious.
Situated on the corner of Fulham Road and Finborough Road, at
the not quite so trendy end of Chelsea, this pub is large and
open plan - a design common to all of the Tups.
The interior is modern looking with plenty of chunky wooden tables,
high tables and stools and a couple of leather sofas at either
end of the pub.
The tables and chairs are of a light coloured wood, as is the
floor and the panelling that covers the lower portion of the walls,
all of which reflect the light that comes through the large windows
on two sides of the building, creating a light and airy feel to
the place.
The walls display a number of paintings and drawings, mainly featuring
sheep and naked women, though not in the same picture, as this
would just confuse the Welshmen.
Food is nearly as important as beer at the Fulham Tup - it puts
itself forward as a gastro pub, which means youll find Tuna
Nicoise on the menu rather than fish and chips, and pay a hefty
price for it.
In fact, there isnt much thats cheap about this pub
- a pint of your non premium larger will set you back the tidy
sum £2.70.
The Fulham Tup lacks what would be called the traditional pub
entertainment, such as pool tables, dart boards and quiz machines
- but it does have a couple of large screens for watching sport,
but football fans beware, the Tups pride themselves on being Londons
premier rugby pub, and televise egg chasing in all its forms,
including Aussie Rules.
Rugby fans can watch everything here, from the Tri Nations, 6
Nations and The World Cup to the Australian National League.
