Questions and Answers
What Do I Need To Bring For The Day Trip?
Photographic Id - this is needed to board the coach
Sturdy Footwear - the event is held on a very steep hillside that is covered in stinging nettle, gorse bushes, and generally unstable ground
Food and Drink - there are no food and drink facilities at the event
- so we advise you to bring along a packed lunch and of course some liquid refreshments
Picnic Blanket - if the sun shines bring one along together with your sun screen for that harsh English sun
Warm Clothing - the event is held outdoors so if the weather turns bad there is no escape
A Strong Bladder - there are absolutely no toilets within ten miles of the event - the coaches do have toilets but these will be out of order whilst we are parked at the Cheese Rolling
How long is the coach trip?
The coach journey from London to Cooper's Hill, Gloucestershire usually takes about three hours with a few stops included along the way
Our coaches are all equipped with a stereo, a tv, video and a toilet
Moderate drinking is permitted aboard the coach so bring some drinks for the journey!
Please note that on the coach, all drinking must be kept at a reasonable level
Can I bring food and drink?
Yes of course - the party starts at Paddington!
There are absolutely no food and drink facilities at the event so please come prepared with food and drink for the day
What actually happens at the event?
The best guide to what happens at the event can be viewed on the official event website - www.cheese-rolling.co.uk
There is also a really good section on the official site that details the history of the event and explains why in fact it takes place
How do I enter the race?
It is free to enter the race although places are limited so it is a case of first in first served
In the past there has been as little as twenty-five people in each race
There are four races throughout the afternoon - one is for ladies - in which you can try to enter
Basically it's a matter of climbing to the top of the hill and making your way to the start line
We'll be at the site in plenty of time to enable you a chance to make the climb and find a place on the start line
Where is the after-party?
As with all Backpacker Co tours we'll finish up at the Redback Tavern for a huge after party
The Redback is not normally open on a Monday so they are specially opening their doors for us and even putting on some live music
We should arrive back in sunny London between 7.00 and 8.00pm
